The Scenario Legacy Challenge
I created this challenge as a way to explore the Scenarios feature of the Sims 4, but with a Legacy Play twist!
Each Generation of this challenge will attempt a different Scenario, while also exploring a theme for that generation.
(As EA adds in more permanent Scenarios, I may update this challenge.)
Notes: I designed this Legacy Challenge to explore Scenarios. Because it is a Legacy, I am only using Scenarios that can be played with pre-existing Sims, so you can do a new Scenario with each heir. Each generation will need to move out onto their own when they become a Young Adult before starting the scenario. the Scenarios I've chosen here require a single YA Sim living alone to start. After that, the Sim may cohabitate. Each generation expands on that Scenario’s theme, incorporating as many elements of the game and packs that compliment them as you like. If there is something in the game that goes well with the theme of the Gen, but isn't mentioned below, feel free to add that in! I also designed this challenge to have a structure and themes, but not be too confining. Some things are suggested, but the rules aren’t meant to feel too stifling. Mold this to suit your style!
Lifespan is up to you, but I think Normal or Long would be the best bet to get the most out of each generation's theme and give your Sims a chance to have a life beyond their scenarios.
Heirs are also up to you. You might want to go with your firstborn, but some people prefer different rules. There just needs to be at least one heir to carry on the legacy.
Spares are, again, up to you. You might wish to move them into other households and play them, or let them progress with Neighborhood Stories. If you have twins, one should be heir, the other should be a spare, as each of these scenarios require one YA Sim only.
Roommates, Partners, and Spouses can move in and help you complete the Scenario. This might mean the Scenario completes more quickly, however, so depending on the level of challenge you are looking for, keep this in mind before having them move in.
OK, here are the Gens:
Gen 1- ALL THINGS GREEN
This Sim is an eco-minded Sim who loves gardening and the outdoors. They must have one of the Nature aspirations. If they complete it, they should choose another Nature Aspiration. They are a vegetarian. This Sim will attempt to complete the Plant-A-Sim challenge. They will live in Evergreen Harbor (if Eco Living pack is owned) and might like to live Off the Grid. Their home will be plant-filled and sunny, and they will landscape their yard around their garden. They should do what they can to help beautify their lot and neighborhood. If this Sim seeks a partner, they should find someone who shares their appreciation of the outdoors, plants and gardening, or eco living. If your Sim has a day job they will gravitate toward pursuits that match their green life, such as Conservationist or Gardener. They will name all of their children after plants. When Traveling, this Sim prefers destinations with outdoor activities such as camping, swimming, or hiking. Other hobbies this Sim is likely to enjoy are Flower Arranging, Herbalism, Beekeeping, Canning, or Rock Climbing. They may own technology, but prefer plants and nature. If they marry, they will have a small wedding outdoors. Their favorite color is green, of course.
GEN 2- FOOD IS LIFE
This Sim loves food and has a passion for cooking. From a young age they will enjoy watching cooking shows on TV and helping grownups cook. They will have the Glutton Trait and Master Chef aspiration and will attempt to complete the Unlucky Chef Scenario. Their main hobbies will be Cooking and Gourmet Cooking. They will move to San Myshuno in order to sample more cuisines and attempt to learn as many recipes as possible. They love to take pictures of their food! The Spice Festival is their jam, and they always make sure to attend it at every opportunity. If this Sim seeks a partner, they will prefer someone who shares their passion and who they can test recipes on. If they marry, they will probably bake the cake for their wedding. If they attend University, they will pursue a Culinary Arts Degree. They might choose to work for someone else in the chef career, or perhaps will seek to open and run their own restaurant. When Traveling, this Sim will seek exotic destinations that offer up new and exciting foods to try. Their clothing choices will be colorful and their wardrobe and accessories may reflect their food-obsessed lifestyle. Their home décor revolves around their kitchen and dining space, and may also include spaces to entertain--and feed!--guests. Other hobbies this Sim is likely to enjoy are: Baking, Herbalism, Fishing, Juice Fizzing, Canning, and/or Mixology.
GEN 3-THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE
This Sim is obsessed with uncovering the unsolved mysteries of the universe. They love stargazing and desperately wish to make alien contact one day. This Sim will attempt to complete the Extraterrestrial Researcher Scenario. They will have the Nerd Brain Aspiration and Geek trait. If Strangerville is owned, they might also have the Paranoid trait. If this Sim chooses a partner, they will prefer to match with an alien or a fellow Geek. If this Sim has a day job, they should choose the Scientist career. This Sim will live in a desert world on a more secluded lot. Their telescope and their rocket are their most prized possessions. They aren’t much into keeping up with trends in fashion or home décor because they are too busy researching and stargazing, however they do have their fair share of posters and might collect random memorabilia or crystals. This Sim doesn’t bother to travel much, but they never miss the Geek Con when it comes to town. If this Sim completes their Scenario, and if Strangerville is owned, they might then try to solve the Strangerville Mystery. Hobbies your Sim might enjoy--if they can pull themselves away from their telescope long enough--are Research & Debate, Vampire Lore, Rocket Science, or Video Gaming.
GEN 4-MWAHAHAHA!
This is a Sim who wants to become wealthy and doesn’t care what they have to do to make it happen. They have the Ambitious and Evil traits and the Fabulously Wealthy Aspiration. They will join the Secret Agent career and follow the Villain branch and attempt to complete the Super Rich Supervillain Scenario. They will move to an upscale neighborhood, as far away from the home where they grew up as possible, even if they have to have roommates to afford it at first. If they choose a partner, they will choose someone who comes from money and can help them meet their goal of being rich. This Sim is all about luxury and they will not be happy living among flea market finds. They want fancy furniture and designer clothes! They love things that are shiny, and the rarer the better. Their home will have at least one secret passageway, hidden lair, or room locked to anyone else but them where they can hide their secrets and hatch nefarious plots. They are not a very involved or warm parent to their heir, and will most likely hire a Nanny as much as possible to do the parenting for them. This Sim can’t be bothered with any Hobbies that don’t support their villainous lifestyle, but they will want to work on leveling up in Charisma so they can influence others, and should also pursue Fitness to pull off their Secret Agent missions. Mischief is fun, but only when they are the ones doing it!
GEN 5-ROUNDED OUT
After a chaotic upbringing, this Sim just wants to live a well-rounded life. They will move to a quiet and calm place. Willow Creek and Newcrest are nice. Or perhaps Henford-on-Bagley would be a good place to start over? This Sim will attempt to complete the Well-Rounded Scenario. This Sim is slow to trust--who wouldn’t be after being raised by a villain? But they hope to meet their soulmate one day and start a family. They want to offer their offspring the loving childhood they never had. Once they get settled into their new life, they begin to feel the world is their oyster. They are free to choose their career, aspiration, and traits, however they are most likely to choose the Super-Parent or Renaissance Sim Aspiration. This Sim enjoys meeting and getting to know their neighbors. They are always inviting other Sims to dinner, and they are happy when they see their offspring doing well in school and making friends. If Get Together is owned, this Sim will want to join or start a club. Though this Sim loves their career, they know that work-life balance is important and will take vacation days and holidays to spend more time with friends and family. This Sim rarely turns down an invitation for outings or visits with other Sims. This Sim values comfort, and will dress accordingly. Their home will feel cozy and lived-in, with practicality in mind. Your Sim loves hobbies and has many! For some reason, this Sim really likes circles.
GEN 6 (AND BEYOND???) -STARTING FROM SCRATCH
A Tragedy leaves this Sim homeless, penniless, and alone on an empty lot. They must scrape up every last Simoleon they can and try to build a life out of nothing. Money is this Sim’s goal, but not because they seek luxury. In fact, they will lead a simple life. This Sim and any further heirs will try to complete the Making Money Scenario. They will get a day job, choosing one that offers stability and plenty of upward mobility, and they will be a diligent employee. In their free time this Sim will seek other chances to make a Simoleon or two, such as crafting saleable objects or dumpster diving. Speaking of dumpster diving, if Eco Living is owned, this should be the primary means of obtaining objects to furnish this Sim’s home. They might also haggle at flea markets for cheap finds, and any purchased furnishings from the BB catalog must be one of the cheapest options available. This Sim’s home will be small, only adding on as necessary to make room for heirs. If this Sim chooses a partner, they will want someone stable who can earn good money and contribute to their Million-Simoleon goal. If they marry, they will choose to elope or have a small vow exchange at home without throwing a party. This Sim will have a simple and basic sense of fashion, not wanting to waste money on expensive clothes. They will not travel anywhere that costs money, and won’t take any time off unless it is paid. They will never hire help for cleaning, child-rearing, gardening, or repairs. They will need to become handy in order to fix things that break! They will always choose free Daycare when leaving children in care. When this Sim’s children are teens they will get after school or weekend jobs. In bars, this Sim will only order free water and chips and they will avoid eating in restaurants. If this Sim does not complete the scenario within their lifespan, it gets passed on to their heirs for as many generations as it takes.
When the above gens and their respective scenarios are complete, you’re done! You have completed the Scenario Legacy Challenge!!! You are now the proud owner of a Legacy which you may keep playing and inventing your own rules for.
If your Heir dies before having an heir of their own, the challenge ends…dun dun duuun!
